Lanarkshire Larder Members Tea Tasting at the The Scottish Tea House

The Scottish Tea House, located just off the M74 at Dillarburn, is situated in a beautiful countryside location in the rolling hills of Lanarkshire. They carefully source delicious loose leaf tea from around the world and are currently perfecting growing their own tea. Our lucky members enjoyed a tour of their polytunnel, home to the Georgian tea bushes which are dormant at this time of year. 1 tunnel containing about 1kg of bushes produces about 250g of tea leaves and our Scottish climate makes it a challenging task but it can be done.

Our aim is to support and grow the local food & drink industry and so we were on the hunt for new, innovative ideas to showcase our wonderful businesses in Lanarkshire!

Members Spotlight: Cows of Covington

Hillhead of Covington is a dairy farm milking 400 Holstein cows located between Tinto Hill and the river Clyde in South Lanarkshire. The Baillie Family have been faming here for over 25 years. The family have always enjoyed the fresh milk that is produced on the farm but have increasing found that it bears less resemblance to the milk available to the majority of people. Proper fresh milk has been losing its appeal, being overly processed; high temperature pasteurising, standardising, homogenising, filtering, skimming off the cream and often 5 days old before getting to the customer having travelled many, many, miles around the country. The family wanted to create the Cows of Covington brand to provide proper fresh whole milk straight to the local community.
